Melanie Gagne, Guest Coach
Consulting Executive Producer, Scholastic
Melanie is a freelance Executive Producer and Director of audiobooks. She has overseen the production and casting for over 250 titles. Some of her credits include Scholastic’s Goosebumps series, the multi-cast Riverdale novels, licensed properties such as Five Nights at Freddy’s, and several projects by Alice Oseman, including the Audie-nominated titles Loveless and This Winter.
Tamara Marston, Guest Coach
Senior Casting Director, Podium Audio
Tamara Marston is the Senior Casting Director at Podium Audio.
Coming from a theater and music career, both as a performer and director, she first entered the audiobook industry as a narrator in 2009 and recorded for Blackstone, Highbridge, Harper Collins, Audible and others before moving into mentoring, coaching and casting; she came to Podium in 2016 after casting for BeeAudio for several years.
Tamara lives in Southern Oregon with three dogs, two cats, and a 30-year-old African Grey parrot who’s currently composing her third operetta.
Lucas Behrends, Guest Coach
Casting Associate, Penguin Random House Audio
Lucas is a Casting Associate at Penguin Random House Audio and works in conjunction with the award-winning team of producers to find the best voice for projects. Lucas started their career in casting while attending VCU where they worked under a Casting Director in Richmond, VA. At the agency, they lead casting for the university’s student films. They graduated with a BA in English and cinema and minor in creative writing. After moving to NYC, they freelanced on film and TV sets before landing at Penguin Random House in 2022.
Lucas enjoys casting for all genres, but especially literary fiction, queer fiction, and thrillers.
Jesse Bickford, Guest Coach
Senior Producer, Blackstone Publishing
Jesse Bickford is the senior producer and a director for Blackstone Publishing, and has been with the company since 2008, after stumbling upon audiobooks rather unexpectedly. A Southern California native she’s been in Oregon since 2004 and loves living in the Pacific Northwest. A lifelong book dragon, Jesse couldn’t ask for a better career than in audiobooks. Her favorite genres are short story anthologies, fantasy novels, middle grade titles, queer literature, and books with a little extra *ahem* spice in them. When not audiobooking she can be found hanging out with her family and their two unruly yet adorable dogs, usually with a book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.
Ana Clements
Guest Presenter
Award-nominated Ana Clements has worked professionally in the voice industry for 10 years. As a stage actress and bilingual talent, she brings an abundance of character voices to her British and Spanish audiobook narration. As the founder of ‘Audiobooks’ on Clubhouse, hosting regular sessions, and also as a podcast host, Ana understands the challenges of our creative careers. She has coached and spoken on Audiobooks at VO Atlanta, MexicoAudio, MAVO and One Voice conferences, and at smaller events. She trained and has been coaching narrators since 2022. Her practical and insightful work empowers them to push past their self-limitations “with actionable direction”. Her creative coaching has been described as “helping others to reach a point of clarity on who they are as a creative professional”.
